Review: "The Magician's Lie" - Greer Macallister

Title: The Magician's Lie
Author: Greer Macallister
Published by: Legend Press
Pages: 288

Synopsis: The Amazing Arden is the most famous female illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick of sawing a man in half on stage. But one night she swaps her trademark saw for an axe.
When Arden's husband is found dead later that night, the answer seems clear, most of all to young policeman Virgil Holt.
Captured and taken into custody, all seems set for Arden's swift confession. But she has a different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from powerless, and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding.
A magical and mysterious historical thriller, perfect for fans of The Night Circus and Water for Elephants.

(may contain spoilers)

This book was so so amazing! It was different from anyone else I have read! Arden is a famous illusionist and all her show are completely booked! Everyone is amazed by Arden's tricks. But at some point, someone close to the illusionist is murdered! Arden is not present at the time and because of that, she's taken into custody because the police think she's guilty!

While she's in the police station being interviewed, Arden tells the police officer the story of her life. All the torturous moments she went through, the good and bad moments of her life... But the most amazing thing was that while Arden tells us all these things, we realize how interesting her mind is! No surprise she's an illusionist!

Some parts of the story were a bit slow for me. All the description of Arden's life was like too much for me because I prefer stories which are more developed and fast-paced. However, those last chapters were perfect! The way Arden told her story made me think that the ending was going to be different. But it just blew my mind! I know Arden is amazing in matters of the mind but that was just so so different and unexpected!

I received a copy of this book by Legend Times in exchange for an honest review.
