Opinion: "Fear of Falling" - S. L. Jennings

Title: Fear of Falling (Fearless #1)
Author: S. L. Jennings
Pages: 320

Synopsis: I can’t remember the last time I felt completely safe. Security seemed more like a luxury to me, reserved for those who were fortunate enough to have picture perfect childhoods. For those who didn’t bear the ugly scars that keep me bound in constant, debilitating fear. I’ve run from that fear my entire life. But when I met him, for once, I couldn’t run anymore.
He scared the hell out of me in a way that excited every fiber of my being. It wasn’t the tattoos or the piercings. It wasn’t the warmth that seemed to radiate from his frame and blanket me whenever he was near. It was just…him. The scary beautiful man that threatened to alter 23 years of routine and rituals, and make me face my crippling fear.
My name is Kami and I am constantly afraid. And the thing that scares me the most is the very thing I want.
“Don’t worry,” he smiled, pulling me into the hard warmth of his chest. “I’ve got you. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”
And just like that, Blaine had staked his claim on the untouched part of me that no living soul had ever moved. He had captured every fear, every reservation, and crushed them in the palm of his inked hand.

Opinion (may contain spoilers):
This book was a complete adventure! It was the first time I read something of Jennings but this was a huge surprise! Such an amazing story and likeable characters that I didn't want it to end! Kami and Blaine were such cuties!

Kami is a young women full of fears and terrors. She's been living with Angel and Dom at an apartment, they were the ones who helped her stand up on her feet and keep living her life even when things were rough. Kami's past is troubled. When I say troubled, I mean really troubled. Her father was a "monster", always beating her mother up until she was unrecognizable. Kami wasn't lucky either. She was abused in all possible ways: physically, mentally, sexually and so on... And now, even if she tries, Kami lives with fear following her everywhere. She can't even be alone in a room with the door closed and so many other things! She's such an amazing women, but she considers herself someone who doesn't deserve to be loved.

Then we have Blaine, a young man with a troubled past too but who doesn't let it take over his life. He's that typical muscle guys with tattoos and piercings that most girls fantasize with. He is working at his uncle's bar when he gets a glimpse of Kami and her green eyes. She's looking for a job and get's to find a place there. Since the beginning that we can sense that Kami's fear of falling in love will just keep growing, because Blaine and Kami click right away!

In spite of all Kami's secrets and struggles, Blaine loves her with all he has. He's comprehensive with her and, even though she keeps pushing him away, he always stays by her side. And that's one thing that frustrated the hell out of me. I mean, it's okay for you to have your struggles and all but after a man tells you over and over again that he's there for you and all, you just don't keep pushing him away! I mean, I know it's hard for people with there fears to trust others again, but in this case I think it was too much.

Despite all the sad moments in the story, Kami and Blaine also had their cute and happy ones! Blaine kept tried to make some of Kami's fears to go away and that was something utterly amazing! And that ending was such an explosion of cuteness and so on that I just couldn't handle it! So happy I was! Until I realized that the next book wasn't about them... Not cool...

This is a great story in which Jennings did a great job showing how people who have those kind of fears live their life. It's not easy, sometimes it makes them snap out completely. But that's the way life is and we have to make it even when we don't feel like it.

I wish I could just read this all over again! The way Kami and Blaine's relationship starts to gain shape and grows is absolutely amative! And I think it would be great if there was another book, because that ending made me even more curious about how they would deal with their new live! I wanted to give 5 stars, but I couldn't deal with Kami's attitude always shutting Blaine's out. But, overall, a really great book!
